Since then the brand has focused on stylish, functional and modern mens clothing. The ethos of the brand follows that of renowned father of industrial design, Raymond Loewy, the talent widely regarded as having ‘designed America’ and the man behind a collection of iconic contributions to modern life including the Shell logo and the Lucky Strike packaging. Loewy is quoted as saying “you must create your own design style” and it is this mantra that informs each season from YMC.

Jono Dunbar

14–04–2016

This season we have commissioned Painter and Masters of Fine Arts student Jono Dunbar, to create a series of four works entitled ‘Don’t wanna wear the pants, just wanna wear the short-shorts’ inspired by our Winter 2016 collection.

I initially adopt an ‘action-painting’ method as it is a loaded language; an individuals attempt at honest self-expression. Yet I find a productive irony in this, in that this approach to painting is only legible to firstly the artist. A ‘soft’ colour palette is employed, fluorescent spray paints and a washed out, flimsy use of oils are all intended to resist the tropes of the masculine, heavy handed use of paint.” – Jono Dunbar

We invite you to view these large-scale works currently on display in our NZ Stores. We are also pleased to announce we will be giving these works away to four lucky customers at the end of the season.

Hikalu Clarke

01–11–2015

Painter, Masters of Fine Arts student and Edit. staff member Hikalu Clarke, is the co-director of artist-run project space HOTDATE based in Kingsland, Auckland.
His interests lie in how technology affects our interaction with information, including it’s ability to flatten time and contexts into a digestible, fleeting platform.

This series of three works entitled Tumbleweed is inspired by our Summer 2015 / 2016 collection.

“Tumbleweed explores a different approach to my previous painting methods. Taking a step away from the photographic image, these paintings concentrate on the way in which space can be created through paint, and how a mark can be indicative of a moment in time.”

We invite you to view these large-scale works currently on display in our NZ Stores. We are also pleased to announce we will be giving these works away to three lucky customers at the end of the season.

*To be in to win just shop with us this summer and complete the entry form provided in store.

YMC x Solovair est.1881

16–03–2015

New brand at Edit., YMC have come together with Solovair to fuse their contemporary design with a remarkable British classic shoe maker. Solovair established in 1881, translating from ‘sole – of – air’ were the first producers of the the Dr Martens air cushioned sole in 1959 and have been manufacturing quality British made shoes ever since. Each pair are hand made within their factory in Northamptonshire, an area famous for quality British shoe making. Cutting no corners, the shoes pass through around 200 processes before being boxed and ready to sell.

Featuring goodyear welted soles, a process highly regarded for being relatively waterproof by not allowing water to get into the insole, the relative ease in which the sole can be replaced and the fact that the shoe can last much longer than those with other construction methods.

Watch the video below to see this process in action.

Messagerie pea coats

A/W 14 sale continues

30–08–2014

The Messagerie pea coat is a modern take on an old classic. Have your pick between casual and tailored construction.

Originally a pea coat, or a reefer jacket, was issued in 1857 as the The Royal Navies first regulation uniform. Designed for crewmen who had to climb the rigging and furl and unfurl, or ‘reef’ the sail of the sailing ships. The jacket was cut short, to allow ease of movement through the rigging. It had a double-breasted front, which displaced the buttons to each side.
This helped reduce the chance of getting caught on ropes, as the wearer manoeuvred the sails. The pockets were often close to vertical, and over the flanks, rather than horizontal and at wrist level. It was made of a very heavy wool, in a dark navy blue , with a nap on the the face side.

The Messagerie pea coat is available in 5 different fabrics – three heavy and structured wools for a more tailored look & two knitted offerings for a unique twist on a very classic cut.

Available at Edit. whilst stocks last, at a further reduction of 50% off.
