CHARCOAL

This jacket originates from an unbranded American coverall from the 1910’s that was discovered in a coal mine. In the words of T.T, this jacket is “…more like a tool than a garment’ and reflects the utilitarian spirit of early industrial workwear.

The original garment embodies a polemic shift in American manufacturing when mass production began to replace traditional craftsmanship. Workwear worn by labourers, the backbone of the industrial economy, are elegant symbols of this shift. Garments like this prioritise durability and function. Staying faithful to the source garment, Lot. 303. retains the simplified construction, flat patterns, resilient fabric and practical pocket layout of the original. Subtle improvements, like a refined shoulder slope to improve the underarm fit, have been added to reduce bulk under the arms.

The fabric is a high-density satin woven from cotton and linen. Hemp yarn is used in the weft to bring the natural coolness of linen, while open-end spun cotton yarn is used in the warp to create a supple, textured finish.

  • Inspired by a 1910s American coal mine coverall.
  • Utilitarian design with simplified construction and practical pockets.
  • Modified shoulder slopes for improved underarm fit.
  • Engraved Iron hardware finished in a matte coating mixed with ink.
  • 84% Cotton, 16% Hemp; woven on an old-type power loom.

Please note: due to the dying process, colour and tone may vary between garments.
