LOT. 324 USMD CONVALESCENT JACKET
MUD DYED BROWN
The item is based on a hospital jacket produced in the U.S. in the 1940s. Hospital jackets were provided to soldiers recuperating in hospitals for use when going out. An article from the May 21, 1941 edition of The New York Times describes how the U.S. Forces designed uniforms for wounded soldiers and adopted maroon as the color, symbolizing cheerfulness, to uplift citizens' spirits during WWII, as well as for its laundering durability. The item uses satin fabric with densely woven weft yarns. Pre-treated with mercerization to enhance color, the fabric achieves vivid and smooth appearance. MUD DYED BROWN is carefully dyed one by one using "mud dye" , the traditional dyeing technique of Amami Oshima Island. None of them look the same, as all of them are one of a kind.
